Research Article| July 01 2010 Compositional Process in Film Scoring: An Interview of Composer/Guitarist, Part 1 of 2 Ira Newborn; Ira Newborn Ira Newborn (iraleh@earthlink.net), born 26 December 1949, holds a bachelor’s degree from New York University. He is a guitarist who learned how to arrange and compose music for many purposes, two of which were The Manhattan Transfer singing group and motion picture scores such as The Blues Brothers, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Naked Gun films, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Mall Rats, and Into the Night. He serves on the Artist Faculty in Film Scoring at New York University Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions. Search for other works by this author on: This Site Google Ron Sadoff Ron Sadoff Ron Sadoff, Associate Professor, pianist and composer, is the architect and Director of the program in Scoring for Film and Multimedia at NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions. He has been featured on CNN entertainment segments, having composed the music for the 2006 Oscar-winning film, The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation. He also scored Chuck Jones: Memories of Childhood for Warner Brothers for Academy Award–winning director, Peggy Stern. With Gillian Anderson, he cofounded and is the coeditor of the University of Illinois Press journal Music and the Moving Image. His forthcoming book coauthored with Roy Prendergast, Music in Film: History, Criticism, and Analysis, will be published by W.W. Norton in 2012. Serving as Creative Director, Sadoff produced the largest concert webcast of its day, Michael Jackson and Friends from Munich, Germany in 2000. He also serves as an expert witness in music copyright cases.
