Kelley. New York: Free Press, 2009. xviii, 588 pp. David Ake David Ake DAVID AKE is Associate Professor in the Department of Music at the University of Nevada, Reno. He authored the books Jazz Cultures (2002) and Jazz Matters (2010)—both University of California Press—and coedited, with Charles Hiroshi Garrett and Daniel Goldmark, the collection Jazz/Not Jazz (forthcoming, 2012). An active pianist and composer, he has worked alongside many of today's outstanding improvising musicians. Recordings include the solo-piano CD In Between (2005) and The Dark with EEA (Origin Records, 2010).
