Abstract

The re-extraction of uranium (VI) from TBP-Amsco solution into dilute nitric acid is hindered by the presence of dibutyl phosphoric acid. Attempts to correlate observed extraction coefficients with published equilibrium data established that the extraction coefficient of uranium is actually greater than calculated from the published data. The empirical formula of the previously undescribed complex is [UO 2(NO 3)(DBP)·TBP] x . Good agreement with the experimental data is obtained with x = 2. For this complex log K = 12·5. A characteristic set of six ultra-violet absorption peaks is associated with the complex.
