Abstract
Abstract We have recorded X-ray magnetic circular dichroism at Pt L 2,3 -edges in thin-film and bulk samples of MnPt 3 or CoPt intermetallic compound. To compare magnetic properties of Pt atom, orbital and spin magnetic moments were separately evaluated through the magneto-optical sum rules; as a result, the orbital contribution to the magnetic property is almost same in both thin-film and bulk samples. Hence, a large magneto-optical effect is not directly connected with magnitude of orbital moment.
