Abstract
The article presents the figure of Irena Zielińska, a poet from Międzyrzecz, explains the concept of colour, gives a definition of the linguistic creation of the world, as well as contains an attempt at a linguistic analysis of the function of achromatic and chromatic colours and chiaroscuro in the volumes of the poet’s early work. The research material excerpted from three poetry collections, consisting of a total of 128 poems, was classified according to colours representing 9 semantic fields: 3 achromatic colours (white, black, shades of grey), 4 chromatic colours (green, red, yellow, blue), and light and shadow. Their presence was examined in 259 textual occurrences. In the final part of the article, an attempt was made to characterise the style of Irena Zielińska’s poetry in the context of colours.
