Abstract

Due to the importance of chiral pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, asymmetric synthesis is a dynamically growing field. This account summarizes the developments in the application of nontraditional activation methods for the synthesis of chiral compounds. The work includes several examples by microwave-assisted organic synthesis, sonochemistry, electrochemical activation, photochemistry, and mechanochemical synthesis. The applications of these nontraditional activation methods appear to enhance the environmentally benign character of these synthetic protocols, suggesting the continued importance of these methods in green synthesis development.
