Abstract

This chapter discusses the implementation of a computer system. In most computer systems, there is one person or a small group of people who have the original idea and who will ultimately benefit from the system. Unlike some pieces of equipment, the way to use a computer is not at all obvious to the potential user, but this does not mean that he needs to be concerned with the technicalities of all the processes involved in building a system. Computers are very good at performing calculations and at storing, retrieving, and restructuring files of information. However, the processes of detailed systems analysis and design are best carried out by someone with training in this field that also has experience of medical systems. When the systems design is complete, it should be agreed by all concerned. It is the practice in many organizations for the completed systems specification to be presented to those sponsoring the system for their signature, on the understanding that once signed, the systems design will remain unaltered.
