Abstract

Administrative controls in an organization or industry include safety measures to be implemented by the authority over subordinates, such as control of resources, equipment, personnel management, unit logistics, and training of human resources. Standard operating procedures, record keeping, periodic inspections, and audits are important pillars of administrative controls. The authority should implement the posting of hazard signs on laboratory (i.e. academia and industries) doors, working in a chemical fume hood, adopting suitable SOPs, mandatory use of PPEs, restricting access to areas in the laboratory (i.e. academia and industries) where hazardous chemicals are used, limiting the duration of exposure when working with hazardous chemicals. At the entrance of every laboratory (i.e. academia and industries) and lab support rooms, labels must be posted to indicate the NFPA rating of laboratory (i.e. academia and industries), hazards present within the lab, PPEs to be worn in the area, and access limitations.
