Abstract

Intra-/inter-campus or industry transportation of chemicals from one location to another involves significant danger, particularly in the event of an accidently spilled substance. Chemicals, gas cylinders, and cryogen must be transported and shipped as per standard protocols. Chemicals that cannot be shipped without prior approval must be labeled accordingly. Chemicals are transported using a cart having sturdy wheels and two-inch rim, while cylinders are placed in the cylinder cart before transportation. Only cargo or freight elevators are used to transport chemicals between the floors and transportation of incompatible chemicals together is not allowed. Special barriers such as rubber padded barriers should be used to prevent any breakage or damage due to accidental impact of cart with the floor or wall while transportation. For the transport of material from one laboratory (i.e., academia and industries) to other in the same building, PPEs should be worn to avoid contamination. PPEs must be clean. Gloves must be worn in one hand with one hand free to handle communal surfaces such as buttons, elevators, and doors, and if both hands are with gloves, then one hand should be used to touch communal surfaces.
