Abstract

This chapter discusses about the membrane contactor, a new highly integrated process involving the membrane unit operation. The chapter basically describes about the use of solid, micro-porous, hydrophobic (or hydrophilic) polymeric matrix in order to create an interface for mass transfer and/or reaction between two phases. Membrane contactors through large exchange area and independent fluid dynamics allow an easily controlled operation which has been described vividly in this chapter. Moreover along with its basic principle, the merits and demerits have been discussed providing specific applications towards wastewater and aroma recovery treatment.
