Abstract

This chapter reviews borate mining, which follows the basic mining practices. The chapter discusses several open pit mining. The initial inclined shaft at borate is in the colemanite outcrops highest-grade ore at High Point. It was at a 45° angle, followed by the ore's dip, and eventually at 183 m deep. This salar has both massive beds and nodules of ulexite, starting at a depth of 2–15 cm and extending to a layer of travertine or caliche. Several experimental tests have been done on borate solution mining such as a brief study of both single and dual connected wells on borax at the Kramer deposits. The last underground mine at Kramer was the Jenifer Mine. It was considered highly automated for its time. It used boom-type mining machines and automatic ore lifting in the shafts.
