Abstract

Bioprinting is an emerging research field with myriad printing methodologies being developed as strategies for biofabrication and tissue engineering. The advancement in biomaterials development for bioprinting revolves around improving the printability of the bioink. However, there is a need to develop bioinks that are catered to the different methods of fabrication. In this chapter, we will first discuss on the different types of hydrogel used in bioprinting. Key considerations for using hydrogels in bioprinting are summarized as per each bioprinting processes, giving insights on the different material and process factors that influence the printability of bioink. Also, we would be highlighting different approaches that are used to overcome limitations in hydrogel-based bioprinting.
