Abstract

A powerhouse, with the attachments, is the building that houses the electromechanical equipment of the hydroelectric power plant, mainly the hydraulic turbines, generators, governors, switchboard, etc. The main transformer could be located in the open air, in a space attached to the building. The powerhouse of small hydropower usually is not underground, with an exception made for axial-flow tube, bulb, or pit turbine, and it is attached directly to the intake structure.
