Abstract

Cutting tools are of great importance to machining quality, cost, efficiency, and sustainability. Integrating intangible cutting services with physical cutting tools, cutting tool services provide economic, professional, and sustainable solutions. Digital twin (DT) is a service-oriented technology, which provides a unique way to implement cutting tool services. In this chapter, the concept, framework, and function of DT-driven cutting tool service are addressed. A digital model for cutting tools in machining process is proposed to enable DT-driven cutting tool services. DT-driven cutting tool wear condition monitoring service, tool condition forecast service, remaining useful life prediction service, cutting tool selection decision-making service are also discussed deeply. A prototype is developed to illustrate and validate the model. Then, some intelligent, proactive, and predictive cutting tool services are enabled to realize the win-win situation.
