Abstract

Since ancient times, man has benefited immensely from using natural resources to effectively address his needs; ranging from housing to utensils to food and even as medicine. Within this context, the human-plant interface plays an important role in our discovery of the medicinal value of plants thereby unlocking its therapeutic potential. The quest for survival as well as improved sexual prowess prompted the use of plant products as aphrodisiacs to enhance libido, sex drive as well as sexual performance. Zingiber officinale and Epimedium grandiflorum exhibit pro-fertility capabilities and as such are known to increase testosterone levels and enhance spermatogenesis.
