Abstract

Metabolic variation is an important reason that people differ in their requirements and responses to nutrients. Genetic, epigenetic, and microbiome variations underlie why people may be metabolically different. In this review, we focus on the genetic reasons for metabolic variation and use studies on the nutrient choline to highlight key principles.
