Abstract

The one electromagnetic wave that has never been studied in any remote sensing literature is twisted. However, the description of the twisted electromagnetic wave must be tackled from the point of view of quantum mechanics. In this view, twisted electromagnetic waves can be defined as twisted photons. In this sense, twisted photons have the ability to carry additional information. In other words, electromagnetic angular momentum has the potential to produce abundant higher-bandwidth communications technology. The angular momentum of electromagnetic waves involves dual constituents: (1) a spin angular momentum and (2) an orbital angular momentum. This chapter presents a novel description of electromagnetic waves based on the quantum twisted theory.
