Abstract
Common cycloaddition reactions such as [2+2] and [4+2] have been explained as examples of pericyclic reactions using perturbation molecular orbital (PMO) and frontier molecular orbital (FMO) approaches. An attempt is made to explain the stereochemical consequences of these reactions. The effect of Lewis acids on Diels–Alder reactions is also discussed. Special features of this chapter include reactions such as intramolecular Diels–Alder (IMDA) reactions, dehydro-Diels–Alder reactions, higher cycloadditions, and cycloadditions of multiple components. A large number of solved problems given at different places will help the readers to clearly understand cycloaddition reactions.
