Abstract

This chapter is devoted to a study of cheletropic reactions and 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions as examples of concerted reactions. While frontier molecular orbital (FMO) approach nicely explains cheletropic reactions, both FMO and perturbation molecular orbital (PMO) approaches are used to explain 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions. Cycloadditions with diazoalkanes, azomethine ylides, azomethine imines, nitrones, nitrile ylides, nitrile oxides, azides, nitrile imines, and ozone have been explained along with their mechanisms. For better understanding of such reactions, a large number of solved problems are introduced at appropriate places.
