Abstract

This chapter overview two different aerodynamic/hydrodynamic energy harvesters. One is based on electromagnetic mechanism via a bladeless miniature turbine. The other is aero-elastic-piezo-electric mechanism via wind tunnel testing and demonstration. It starts with the bladeless electromagnetic harvester driven by air or rainwater for power production. The closed- and open-loop measurement configurations, critical design parameters and overall energy conversion efficiency are then explained. In the end of this chapter, aerodynamics characteristics and energy conversion performance of the aero-elastic-piezo-electric harvester are studied, compared and discussed, as the piezoelectric generator is applied in different configurations.
