Abstract

This chapter introduces a simple way to improve the power coefficient Cp of a Savonius turbine by installing it above a cuboidal building. Both wind tunnel and towing tests are conducted first. For this, a Savonius turbine is designed and tested above a bluff body. Experimental measurements of the vehicle speed and the wind turbine power are conducted. 3D numerical model is then developed. The measured Cp is then used to calibrate our CFD model to conduct further optimization studies on such Savious wind turbines.
