Abstract

Accurate identification and quantification are essential in modern analytical chemistry to understand chemical or biological systems, develop modern precision medicine, control products, and control food safety. Depending on the research question, target, suspected target or non-target methods can be applied. Despite the performance of modern LC–MS equipment both—the identification and the quantification of a molecule—are still challenging as more and more analytes are to be identified and quantified in highly complex samples. Here we are summarizing recent advancements concerning the identification and quantitation of analytes in target, suspected target, and non-target workflows.
