Abstract

The desire to look always younger thrives the global market of cosmeceutical products that lie between cosmetics and drugs. The global market is estimated to grow at a rate of 8.64% by 2027 which appealed cosmeceutical industries to develop effective products with advanced materials. Today, nanotechnology-based products witness the effectiveness of cosmeceuticals. Nanocosmeceuticals used for skin, hair, nail, and lip care and conditions like wrinkles, photoaging, hyperpigmentation, dandruff, and hair damage have a great market share. In nanocosmeceuticals, a plethora of novel nanocarriers like liposomes, niosomes, nanoemulsions, microemulsion, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, and nanospheres are used to enhance skin penetration, controlled/sustained release, increased stability, site-specific targeting, and high entrapment efficiency. However, nanotoxicological researches showed concern for different health hazards. Although these products advertise probable hazards, it should be regulated and harmonized guidelines to establish their efficacy, safety, and toxicity profiles. This review summarizes the current trend of nanocosmeceuticals, their market shares, and regulations.
