Abstract

The nanoemulsion (NE) is a translucent or transparent emulsion with the dimension in nanometer. Among all the nanocarriers, NEs have been the most frequently used in cosmetic preparation and are denoted as nanocosmeceuticals. The NE shows evidences of better skin penetration, easy dispersion, drug release in a controlled fashion, capable of being formulated as different dosage forms, and long-term stability. The cosmeceuticals prepared from NE are used for antiaging, moisturizing, and lightening effects of the skin. The stability and potency of NE is directly proportional to the selection of components and production methods. Modern investigators studied the prospective of NE for haircare and skincare preparation with greater barrier-breaking properties. The topical application of herbal extracts-loaded NE exhibited enhanced antioxidant and moisturizing effect. In addition, nanogel or nanoemulgel is said to have better efficacy than NE formulation. Overall, NE exhibits ideal properties in the preparation of nanocosmeceuticals that would bring more number of patent applications in future.
