Abstract

In this chapter, nanoscience's pervasiveness in basic science is illustrated by knowledge flow diagrams that display citation patterns between nanoscience research and other research. Nanoscience's contribution to different disciplines is also evaluated by academic research output and impact globally, and by country. Finally, topics representing granular research areas derived from citation patterns of Scopus-indexed publications are analyzed to identify the most prominent, largest by output, and highest field-weighted citation impact research areas related to nanoscience. Scientific disciplines in this chapter are categorized according to Scopus All Science Journal Classification codes, in which scientific activity is classified into four subject areas, 27 subjects, and 334 fields. The analysis is focused on eight key subjects with the highest share of nano-publications in the subject, and one subject (immunology and microbiology) that has been a particularly relevant subject for nanoscience.
