Abstract

The value of creativity to organizational success is well recognized and understandably sought after in response to the mounting evidence of creativity research. However, practitioners and researchers are limited in their capacity to fully harness this benefit by the effectiveness of how creativity is measured and assessed. Multiple measures and assessments of creativity exist, which may lead to different results and conclusions depending on the measure used in a specific study. Further, there is no agreed-upon standard or measure for assessing creativity. In this chapter we provide an overview of the concerns with measuring creativity, provide a detailed review of the existing measurement and assessment techniques of creativity, and provide a discussion of each measure’s strengths and weaknesses. We end with recommendations that practitioners and researchers can use to evaluate creativity and innovation in organizations.
