Abstract

In the current age of medicine, the role of the CRISPR/Cas editing system is not limited to molecular scissor like the previous decade, but CRISPR has made radical changes in modern medical sciences. The main advantages of using CRISPR are that it is cheaper than other genetic engineering tools, it can cure genetic diseases, it can be used to amend targets easily, can be used for cancer and now several other diseases. CRISPR technology can be used in the field of agriculture as well as it can provide solutions for climate change by providing solutions for bioplastics, bioremediation etc. By solving the food waste and providing high-yield crops, CRISPR can eradicate the hunger problem for humankind. As every coin has two sides, CRISPR also has the other. Among the problems that arise from the use of CRISPR mainly are ethical concerns, off-target effects, and responsibility. The aim of this chapter is to discuss the entire scenario of CRISPR use by presenting the benefits and drawbacks of the technology.
