Abstract

This chapter presents the methodology of seismic monitoring of the volcanic activity. The methods of eruption forecasting based on the statistical variations of volcano-tectonic earthquakes are described. The chronicle of forecasting of some volcanic eruptions (New Tolbachik volcanoes, July 1975; Mount Pinatubo, June 1991; Volcán de Colima, November 1998; Usu, March 2000; and Mount St. Helens, October 2004) illustrates the practical activity of volcanologists during volcanic crisis.
