Abstract

This chapter discusses the properties of the continuous seismic signals observed during different stages of volcanic eruption and named “volcanic tremor.” The typical waveforms of these signals and their Fourier spectra are shown. The sources of volcanic tremor are located at shallow depths beneath the crater floor. The amplitude of volcanic tremor is correlated with the height of the eruption columns and lava fountains, with the size of volcano explosivity index (VEI), and varies during different stages of the eruption.
