Abstract

With a rapid increase in marine and crude oil extraction and transportation through water route, oil spills have become a common issue causing environmental pollution and loss of lives and crops. Sudden and rapid requirement for managing and controlling oil spills has led to the involvement of several remedial approaches including physical, chemical, and biological methods in accordance with national regulations. In reference to all the preventive treatments involved, use of chemical dispersants should be studied and implemented carefully. This chapter reflects the use of different chemical dispersants for oil spill-water treatment summarizing in terms of their comparison, working mechanism, effectiveness, acceptability and adaptability, and time saving.
