Abstract

Taurine has long been considered nutritionally important amino acid. Many studies have revealed an important role of taurine in health maintenance and disease prevention. The metabolic syndrome has become a significant health risk in the world, leading to increased morbidity and mortality due to type II diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. This chapter highlights the potential beneficial actions of taurine on each component of the metabolic syndrome.
