Abstract

This chapter summarizes printing in a MetaFrame XP environment. The autocreation feature is one of the most sought after features in MetaFrame XP and enables a user in an independent computing architecture (ICA) session to print to various printers without installing these printers. They are simply autocreated for the user. Network printers are also used on MetaFrame XP servers and an administrator can set the users and groups for whom printers are autocreated when they are logged in. Local printers are another option available to an administrator; and they are installed on MetaFrame XP servers and Windows 2000 server. With MetaFrame XP, the option of replicating print drivers across all servers in the farm with one simple mouse click is established. The chapter explains that in the event that there is a print server on the network, it can import all its installed printers instead of re-installing and configuring all these printers all over again. Greatest new features available with MetaFrame XP Feature Release 1 is the Citrix Universal Print Driver, a generic PCL4 print driver that can be used on almost any print device of any make and model.
