Abstract

Printing in a Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server environment can seem a little complicated for a new administrator until becoming familiar with the various tools and features at disposal. The auto-creation feature is one of the most sought-after features in Citrix MetaFrame and enables a user in an Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) session to print to various printers without having to install these printers. Network printers can be also used within Citrix MetaFrame Presentation servers as well, and an administrator can set the users and groups for whom printers are auto-created when they log in. Local printers are another option available to an administrator; they are installed on Citrix MetaFrame servers just as they would be installed on any other Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 server. With Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server, the option of replicating print drivers across all servers in the farm with one simple mouse click is now possible. In the event that there is a print server on the network, it can also import all its installed printers instead of having to reinstall and configure all these printers all over again. Finally, one of the greatest features available with Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server is the Citrix Universal Print Driver, a generic PCL5c print driver that can be used on almost any print device of any make and model.
