Abstract

This chapter summarizes that Citrix MetaFrame XP servers running within Windows 2000 provide a robust platform that supports 32-bit, 16-bit, and MS-DOS based applications. It is important to place the server in the correct mode, usually install mode, before installing an application so that the server knows to watch for an application install. The changes made during an application install, while the server is in install mode, are placed into a special location in the registry called the shadow registry. The shadow registry is a repository for registry entries and files that the system uses. Installation Manager helps an administrator install an application across multiple servers within a server farm. The chapter explains that Load Manager can publish application across multiple servers. Application compatibility scripts allow an administrator to provide unique settings and constructs for applications at runtime. Multitude of settings can be modified in the registry, on the server, and within the independent computing architecture (ICA) client to give the user a good experience. Publishing applications enable a move beyond the traditional paradigm of client-to-server connections and to move to an application-centric archetype of client-application connections. Program Neighborhood is the 32-bit client that allows a user to access the published applications through a simplified environment. ICA toolbar is the interface administrator that provides access to the most common Citrix management tools.
