Abstract

The meiotic analysis of mutants is a cornerstone of genetic analysis. Meiotic analysis has been used since the work of T. H. Morgan in Drosophila and provides a key tool for biological studies. This chapter describes the experimental protocols used in Chlamydomonas for mating and the subsequent analysis of meiotic products using tetrads and random progeny analysis. The use of two other stages of the life cycle, dikaryons and vegetative diploids, is described in Vol. 3 Chapter 1.
