Abstract
Radial spokes (RSs) are key signatures of the 9+2 axonemes of motile cilia. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, which is amenable to a wide array of experimental approaches, has been attracting researchers to use contemporary technologies and innovative methods to interrogate this multisubunit complex since its discovery. The accumulated findings have turned the RS into a model complex for asking fundamental questions in ciliary biology. This chapter reviews pertinent ideas, research, and the resulting insight that may benefit researchers of diverse interests.
