Abstract
This book chapter is focused on the pH-responsive polymeric micelles, their preparation and formation, the structural-functional properties of micelles related to pH responsiveness, and their drug release mechanisms (kinetics) for their uses as drug delivery systems (DDS). DDSs are a unique and promising treatment strategy that can achieve targeted and controlled drug release based on changes in environmental pH. This book chapter also serves the purpose of improving pH-sensitive DDSs; other factors, such as particle size, surface characteristics of loaded drugs, and compositional structures of micelles, also need further investigation. We anticipate that this chapter will receive attention from readers and researchers toward increasing understanding of the subject, overcoming undesirable adverse reactions in chemotherapy, and improving therapeutic efficacy.
