Abstract

Corrugated paper glued to one sheet on linerboard is called single-face board. It is used primarily as a spacer inside packages. If a second sheet of linerboard is glued to the other side, the product is known as double-face board, and this product accounts for the largest percentage of corrugated board products. Double-wall corrugated boxes are made with three layers of linerboard separated by two layers of corrugating medium. The first part of the operation in manufacturing of corrugated boxes is accomplished by the single-facer section. After the single-face section the product then goes to the double-facer section to apply a second layer of linerboard on the opposite side of the fluted corrugating medium. Furthermore, a variety of tests are used to test corrugated board, the two paper components of board, or assembled boxes. Various types of compression tests are critical as most corrugated boxes fail in compression when stacked.
