Abstract
Folk medicines find useful applications also in the treatment of diabetes mellitus that is regarded as one of the dreadful complex disorders affecting human's daily life with elevating the risk of developing other diseases as well. Indian regions are rich in floral diversity and ethnomedicinal tradition with various endemic elements and a number of species, which have become rare and most of them are endangered. Potentially antidiabetic 142 plant species from different regions of India used traditionally to cure diabetes mellitus are listed in this chapter, along with indicating their major phytochemicals responsible for the pharmacological profile.
