Abstract

Green chemistry methods can be successfully used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Plant extracts, secrets of microorganisms contain a wide range of organic substances capable of generating silver nanoparticles during the reaction with Ag+ ions. In addition to the reducing function, the same compounds can be surface stabilizers for nanoparticles. As a result of synthesis, stable sols with nanometer-sized metallic silver particles (1–100nm) are formed. The method of metal vapor synthesis is environmentally friendly and can be effectively used in combination with different technological processes for the synthesis of active silver nanoparticles and to provide support of various kinds to obtain functional materials. An extensive diapason of materials for various purposes can be obtained based on these particles. This chapter contains information from the past 10–15years on methods for the preparation and practical use of green synthesis silver nanoparticles.
