Abstract

Current ESC guidelines present several indications for catheter ablation as a first-line treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Those indications reflect high effectiveness and safety of catheter ablation also in comparison to antiarrhythmic drug therapy. Cryoballoon ablation has a firm position as a first-line treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation based on multicenter randomized controlled trials. To achieve similar outcomes, one must remember basic rules on how to perform cryoballoon ablation.
