Abstract

The second edition of Eberhard Bohne’s textbook, ’Verwaltungswissenschaft,’ is intended for students studying social, economic, and legal sciences, as well as practitioners in administration, business, and politics – but it is also an interesting read for both aspiring and established public administration scholars. Bohne critically reflects on the state and prospects of public administration science in Germany, emphasizing its lack of autonomy as a discipline and the urgent need for contemporary training for administrative practitioners. The textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to theoretical and methodological foundations, as well as the basic principles of public administration in Germany. It stimulates discussion on the future of public administration science and the challenges facing the public sector.
