Abstract
In 1925, Serbian Orthodox Church Bishop Viktor Mihailovic, Archbishop of Shkoder, addressed some letters to his former teacher, Professor Protopresbyter-Stavrofor Stevan Dimitrijevic. In these letters, whose content has been completely unknown to the public eye, he notifies Dimitrijevic on the position, circumstances and temptations the Serbian folk and the Serbian Orthodox believers in Albania under his jurisdiction were facing. It is revealed that the greatest jeopardy for the Serbian believers living in the city of Shkoder and its vicinity presented a hostile environment, famine and malaria. These people endured life in such dire circumstances primarily out of respect for their ancestors, who had participated in battle and laid their lives for the liberation of this territory from the Ottoman Empire, and the wish to keep their graves untouched. Bishop Viktor expected Protopresbyter Dimitrijevic to draw the attention of the authorities to this issue, i.e., to appeal to certain Serbian institutions - the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, namely - and wealthy individuals to take greater care of the Orthodox Serbs in order to make their further presence and survival in Shkoder more likely.
