Abstract
This article by Dora Kalff, introduced by Judy Zappacosta, discusses numerous clients' sandplay images which involve going “beyond the shadow” and touching the "original Self." Dora Kalff states that this experience can affect children, adolescents, and adults alike. Using client examples of this phenomenon, Kalff describes the specific sandplay scenes depicting points in their processes which evidence the numinous transformative shift “beyond the shadow” and which touch the depths of the original or "basic Self." Kalff explains that such a deep experience "also brings forth new qualities of the personality." This article is a proceeding from the Sixth International Congress of Sandplay Therapy in Japan.
