Abstract
Your ASLO Board met on 09 June 2018–10 June 2018, prior to the ASLO Summer Meeting in Victoria, British Columbia. The Board welcomed newly elected President-elect Roxanne Maranger, Secretary Dianne Greenfield, members-at-large Amina Pollard and Ajit Subramaniam, and Student member Camille Gaynus to the meeting to introduce them to the Board and the business we conduct for ASLO. At every Board meeting, the status of our membership, finances, and ASLO publications are discussed. In addition, the Board examines reports from all of the ASLO committees and discusses the most effective way to implement activities to meet our mission and the many goals of our Strategic Plan. The Board approved funding for the global outreach initiatives program, an increased number of travel awards for students and early career members attending the Puerto Rico Aquatic Sciences Meeting in February 2019, and for travel support for international students to attend ECODAS XIII. Additional topics of discussion included fundraising, developing ideas for the next strategic plan, and committee membership. Please contribute to ASLO and volunteer for ASLO committees. Good news was reported by Fiona Sarne, the representative from our publisher Wiley: the number of paid subscriptions for journals has increased substantially this year. With great pleasure, we toasted the 2018 class of ASLO Fellows and Sustaining Fellows on Monday evening during the Victoria meeting prior to the Annual Business Meeting. I encourage more members to attend the Business meeting, which is held just once a year to inform all members of the status of the membership, finances, and the ASLO journals. As I conclude my service on the board, I welcome the new Secretary of ASLO, Dianne Greenfield, who will report Board Meeting highlights from Puerto Rico next year.
