Abstract

Digital Image Correlation is a full-field deformation measurement technology which is based on images. The surface of specimen is covered with a random speckle pattern. The speckle pattern deforms together with the testing surface and carries deformation information. Therefore its distribution clearly influences the measurement accuracy. This paper presents an investigation of quality of speckle pattern and uncertainties involved in strain measurements. Two different speckle patterns are created on a carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite plate specimen. DIC results are compared with finite element analysis results. The speckle pattern quality is characterized to study its influence on the measurement accuracy.
