This study aims to explore the culture of Arabic language learning at Sekolah Indonesia Makkah (SIM), with a research focus that includes an analysis of learning methods and strategies, the role of the school environment in shaping a learning culture, and the challenges faced by students and teachers. This study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic type. The ethnographic research cycle procedure is based on Spradley's theory, namely: project selection, posing questions, data collection, collecting research records, data analysis, and writing reports and data sources. Data sources are obtained from observations, interviews, and documentation, which are then analyzed using the Spradley model with domain and taxonomy analysis. The results of the study show that: 1) Arabic language learning at SIM combines interactive and traditional approaches and integrates technology such as Smart TV, Computer Lab, SIM TV Studio, and interactive learning applications. 2) Learning involves 4 maharat: al-kalam, al-qira'ah, al-kitabah, and al-istima'. 3) The school environment, including facilities and extracurricular activities such as the Arabic Club, 3S Habits (smile, greet, and say hello), memorizing the Qur'an, reciting prayers, and reviewing last week's material, plays an important role in forming a culture of learning Arabic. However, there are various challenges for students, such as difficulty in understanding Arabic grammar, differences in dialects, and variations in students' interests and motivations for learning. Likewise, for teachers, with differences in culture, language of instruction, language skills, learning styles, and motivations for learning between students, teachers are required to maximize their abilities in the learning process. This study provides insight into the culture of learning Arabic at SIM as an effort to support Indonesian education abroad. This research investigates the challenges students face in understanding Western films, focusing on language and dialect differences, narrative complexity, and cultural factors. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data was collected through observation and interviews with students at SMP N 4 Sei Kanan. Findings indicate that language barriers, including unfamiliar accents and slang, complex plot structures with intricate storylines and character developments, and cultural nuances, such as differing social norms and historical references, pose significant difficulties for students. Additionally, students often struggle with idiomatic expressions and humor that do not translate well across cultures. This study suggests incorporating strategies to improve students' listening skills and cultural awareness through targeted educational interventions, such as integrating multimedia resources in the curriculum, conducting workshops on cultural contexts, and providing supplementary language support. By addressing these challenges, educators can enhance students' comprehension and appreciation of Western films, fostering a more inclusive and effective learning environments.Student Difficulties, Western Films, Language and Dialect Differences

This study aims to analyze the role of Indonesian as an integration tool between students with different regional language backgrounds in Class B of the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program (KPI) of the Islamic University of Bandung. The diversity of student cultures and regional languages presents challenges in creating effective communication in the campus environment. Indonesian, as a regional language and the language of instruction in education, plays an important role in encouraging interaction between students who are different from their mother tongue. This study uses a qualitative approach with interview and observation methods to find out the experiences and views of KPI Class B students regarding the use of Indonesian in communication both in academic and social contexts. The results of the study show that despite communication difficulties due to differences in accent and language fluency, Indonesian remains an effective unifying tool to facilitate interaction and create harmony between Masu students. This study also identifies the challenges faced by students and provides suggestions for the campus to improve the Indonesian language skills of its students so that they can better support communication in the academic environment. Thus, the Indonesian language has proven to play a very important role in creating an inclusive and harmonious atmosphere among students studying various regional languages at the Islamic University of Bandung.

Are the dialects of England disappearing in the wake of globalisation and 'Estuary English', or are geographical differences as strong as ever? Joan Beal looks at recent research into regional variation in England, discusses the evidence for 'dialect levelling' and argues that, despite this, features of dialect are still clear markers of regional and local identity. Chapters outlining the main regional differences in accent, dialect grammar and dialect vocabulary are followed by discussions of research into geographical diffusion, levelling, issues of identity and stereotypes. Each chapter is accompanied by either an exercise based on data provided, a data-gathering exercise using methodological tools provided, or an extract from a media article provided to provoke discussion. The book also includes a guide to resources available for the study of regional dialects in England. Key Features An up-to-date account of research into regional variation in England A practical, 'hands on' approach, providing the reader with the methods and resources to carry out research projects Includes exercises for use in class.

Previous, mostly impressionistic, examinations of Arabic varieties provide varied descriptions of the dorsal fricative /χ/ place of articulation, ranging from velar to uvular. While some descriptions attribute this variation to dialectal differences, descriptions of the same dialect also vary. 3D ultrasound data were collected from six native speakers of different dialects of Arabic, one each from Syria, Palestine, Faifi (in Saudi Arabia), Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco. Apart from the dorsal fricatives, the corpus included productions of palatal, pharyngeal, and contrasting velar and uvular stops to provide comparative standards for various points of articulation. The Syrian, speaker showed very similar articulations for /χ/ with uvular stops, while the other speakers variably showed a more anterior articulation between the velar and uvular stops. The most anterior articulations were apparent in the Moroccan and Algerian speakers, giving some suggestion of a dialectal difference; however, point of articulation of the dorsal fricative was variable for most of the speakers and not obviously restricted by dialect. The effect of these articulatory observations on the acoustic noise spectra are ongoing.

The uniqueness of interpersonal communication in Aspuri Sultra-Yogyakarta lies in their communication patterns, which are still influenced by the dialect of each ethnic group, even though the female students study and migrate to Yogyakarta, they still use the Southeast Sulawesi accent in their daily communication. This topic is interesting to discuss considering that no one has addressed interpersonal communication in Aspuri Sultra-Yogyakarta. Therefore, the main issues discussed are the concept of interpersonal communication, how the female dormitory residents maintain solidarity through interpersonal communication, and what factors support and hinder interpersonal communication in maintaining solidarity in Aspuri Sultra-Yogyakarta. In this study, the communication method used is the persuasive method. Data analysis is conducted qualitatively with stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Research results show that in an effort to maintain solidarity in Aspuri Sultra-Yogyakarta, residents adopt the concept of openness regarding feelings and thoughts to prevent misunderstandings. Furthermore, the quality time agenda held every month is one way to strengthen brotherly relationships. The presence of dialogues and familiarity serves as supporting factors in interpersonal communication. However, the differences in dialects used have become an element that leads to misunderstandings in interpreting words, and a lack of empathy and supportive attitudes are also significant obstacles to effective communication

This research on dialect geography applies a synchronic comparative linguistic approach with interpretations based on historical linguistic differentiation. The study, which focuses on phonological and lexical aspects, was conducted to determine the linguistic distance between the Dayak languages used by the people who identify themselves as Sekubang and Seberuang residing in the Sepauk Hulu District. The data presented and discussed in this study consist of responses from 21 research informants related to 829 lexical question glosses. This data was obtained through interviews conducted by the researcher with research informants in each observation area. The method used in data analysis is the synchronic comparative method, applying dialectometric formulas and inter-village triangles. The results of the data analysis, which disregards phonological differences between observation areas, show differences in dialect, subdialect, and speech. Based on the analysis and findings in this study, it can be concluded that the Sekubang and Seberuang languages are the same. However, locally, they identify themselves as separate languages. Therefore, to affirm the similarity between these two Dayak variants, the term "Seberuang language" is introduced as a replacement for the names of both languages. This designation is based on the schematic depiction of the broader Seberuang language usage area compared to the Sekubang language usage area.

Jakarta, as a metropolitan city and economic center, attracts residents from outside the area to urbanize. Solo people in Jakarta do the same thing: find work, continue their education, etc. The existing differences in social identity include dialects that have the potential to cause conflicts, such as domination and group segmentation so that other cultures feel alienated. To minimize conflict, migrants feel the need to adapt. This study uses a qualitative approach through the case study method. The research data were sourced from interviews, observations, documentation, and literature studies. The theory used is intercultural communication, barriers to intercultural communication, communication accommodation, social identity, and dialect. The results showed that the adjustment process for Solo immigrants depended on the adaptability of each individual. Adjustments were made by associating with people with a Jakarta dialect.
