Abstract

This paper shows that prepolarizing the RuO2 sensing electrode in a thick film glucose sensor generates enough oxygen in the membrane to be able to measure glucose in an oxygen deficient or nitrogen saturated phosphate buffered saline (PBS) solution. The electrode is polarized at 1.1 Volt vs. Ag/AgCl for two seconds. Longer pulse times are not necessary and even do diminish the current signal. The membrane is a glutardialdehyde cross-linked bovine serum albumin and glucose oxidase layer, covered or not with cellulose acetate.
