Abstract

This paper conducts an analysis of merger and acquisition activity in the hospitality industry for the period 1970-1988. A typology of merger and acquisition strategies is evolved thus enabling classification of merger and acquisition attempts. The classification scheme allows discussion of both general and specific trends concerning merger and acquisition activity. Finally, a statistical model is offered which will enable the determination of the success or failure of different merger and acquisition strategies in terms of financial performance.
