Abstract

One hundred and fifty-four responded to a survey mailed to alumni of Michigan State University's School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management who graduated from 1982 to 1987 While the findings point to some areas for improve ment, the overall conclusion of the study is that the realities of working in the hospitality industry are living up to the expectations these alumni had when they graduated. Differences in response patterns between males and females, as well as between those in the hotel industry and food service industry are presented.
